November 2006
Hi everyone, I bet you never thought I would get around to posting in this section of my web page! I don't know where I should start because I have so much to share with you all. I think I will begin with this past summer because it was amazing.
My summer singing shows always start out on July 1st, Canada Day in my community of
Edmonton , Mill Woods. The Mill Woods Presidents Council put on a full day of activities for the whole family with live acts on stage and end the day with the best Fire Works in
Edmonton . I can not describe in words the feeling I get singing the National Anthem for this audience. I want to send special thanks out to Shaffeek, Shane, and Gordon of the Council for having me back this year and their continued support. There is also a very special little girl I would like to acknowledge, Ashlee. She has come to my shows and is waiting with very special written notes and drawings she has done for me when I get off stage. They really mean a lot to me and I have saved all of them. Thank you, Ashlee.
On July 2nd we drove up to
Athabasca for the Magnificent River Rats Festival. Thank you to Tammy and all the crew that made me feel so welcome. I met some very nice people and I think I gained some fans, especially the lady in blue that danced away to my songs; you are why I love to get out and perform.
Next up was the Calgary Stampede. I was honored to be asked to showcase on the Window of the West Stage. Thank you Susan for having me, I really enjoyed the whole Stampede experience. I have to tell you though, my grandparents were a little concerned for me when I was heading to Stampede grounds in a Oilers T-shirt! Ha..ha..
On the August long weekend I couldn’t wait to get out to Camrose for the Big Valley Jamboree. I got to sing on August the 5th on the Family Stage. Thanks Irma for having me back and all your support over the past few years. I love this Jamboree because I get to see many friends and also get to see some great Country acts on the main stage. I also want to mention a really special lady who does such an amazing job of announcing many of the acts onto the stage. When I talk to her she gives me encouragement and makes me want to pursue this crazy dream of mine, thank you so much Kat Brandon. This year was also very exciting for me because my idol Terri Clark was on the big stage later that night. I had sent a letter to Terri and got to go backstage and meet her before she went on stage. It was also her birthday that day so I got her a card. She is such a beautiful lady whom I admire for her hard work in how she got to where she is today and for what she has done for Canadian Women in the Country Music Industry. She is so talented, I can only dream to one day play my guitar half as good as her. Speaking of guitar, when I met her back stage she signed for me the first guitar I owned. I was one happy girl. Her show was amazing too. Can you imagine 50000 people singing Happy Birthday to you, wow, it was pretty cool.
During August I also had the opportunity to work with a great friend and artist, Aaron Goodvin. He asked me to try and do some writing with him. I was so nervous because I have not had great success with writing but Aaron is a real pro. Thanks Aaron for taking me on and making me feel comfortable. He is so talented, to see him just pick up a guitar and start to play and build a song was awesome. We did get most of a song done but
Nashville called and Aaron had to go for a few months. He is back now so it’s on the top of my list to get finished.
At the beginning of September I was set up with award winning producer Bart McKay. Aaron had told us about this amazing producer in
Saskatoon who could give me a recording that would be top notch. Aaron called Bart and he agreed to see us. So we went to
Saskatoon and worked with Bart on my first single. We are still waiting for the song to be finished and are dying to hear it. He changed the song and the way I sing it, but for the better. The time just flew by while doing the vocals, I loved it. After we get this song we hope to release it to radio. We have had offers from really great people to help us get it out there on radio stations across the country. Then we are hoping to go back in the studio with Bart to do a 5 song CD.
Well, I guess this turned into a little longer than I planned but I didn’t want to miss anything. Thank you so much everyone for all your support and also thanks for the wonderful comments you have submitted to my guestbook. Please feel free to stop in again and sign the guestbook again, I thank my family for all their support while I continue to pursue my dream, it means everything to me.
So keep your ears open for when I get my first single out to radio. All your support in getting requests into the radio stations across the country really helps. I will post the links to all the stations when we are ready to make this happen. The song is called “So Far So Good”
I promise I will try and update a little more often, in the mean time, I hope everyone is as happy as I am and has a special dream of their own they are going after.
Love,
Kara Wilson
